A third lapwing with a slightly more convincing bit of habitat. Back to the 'Lappies' plumage, the 'green' can, of course, range from almost dark olive to grass green depending on the light conditions, so it all adds to the challenge! I'm careful not to miss out the purple patch on the lower scaps - providing it's there.
The downside with sketching from life, for me, is that it's very time consuming and the only way I can get anything down on paper resembling the bird is to constantly draw. Stationary subjects are much easier, of course, but I still have to get my eye in. With limited time I consequently I miss lots of birds, but until I get fed up (or retire!) that's the price I have to pay!
