Lapwings

Field sketches of snoozing lapwings, Old Moor, Dec 2013 and Jan 2014

Lapwings are one of my favourite subjects. They're always present and undisturbed down at RSPB Old Moor and make for an engaging subject as they're often snoozing or holding a pose just long enough to quickly get down on paper! The 'green' plumage often comprises several hues and sheens and wonder if I'll ever get it right. I quickly make notes like 'a mix of pea green and olive green, with pine green'. Side-on bird is an early attempt and is almost comic-book like in it's composition, whilst the second on set in a bit more convincing habitat, and reminds me of a 'Lars' special! Ahh, ahh, ahh!
Third attempt is a further small improvement!
