Finished off a few hours sketching down the Old Moor area with a visit to Broomhill Flash to admire the resident Black-necked Grebe. As a wannabe artist a summer-garbed BNG makes an enticing subject (they're crackers in winter, too), so I tried to capture the overcast conditions of the afternoon with a few old Derwent Drawing pencils (pretty useful for the plumage) and a posh Caran d'Ache greys for the water, which remains very tricky to do! Anyway, it's a result - of sorts!
The bird was challenge to sketch, though, as it was busy feeding when I was observing. A few seconds on the surface and it was down again, meaning a very speedy response was required!
