Golden Balls(up)

The point of this exercise was to try to re-create complex plumage patterns without ending up with an over-worked mess. Golden Plover are ideal subjects for this, particularly in autumn, when they look a tad messy compared to those in spring. Forgetting the boring composition, I think I've managed to capture something like the actual spangled pattern without having to refer to the Collins for help!
A photo would have made it a lot easier but then that's not gonna develop observational skills. My colour notes from the sketch appeared to have worked! I can't help being critical (isn't everyone who tries this game?) but I just couldn't get the head angle right even after several attempts. However, it's a useful practice piece.
Cheers
