Less Is More

In a bid to create more of an impact with a pic I decided to not put in a background with this latest piece and I'm pleased to say the 'negative space' does indeed give it some 'oomph'! I was sketching common gulls down Old Moor a couple of weeks ago and was suddenly captivated by this side-on but head-turned stance, which I endeavored to get down straight away. Trickiest thing was getting the eyes right on the slightly off-center angled head. Ok, this pic has a much more 'illustrative' feel than those before but it's inspired me to try different things.
Cheers
