Beach combing!

The humble Moorhen - many birder's idea of 'the world's most boring bird'! Well, this and Coot! For me, though, they're always available and offer great practice opportunities. Just look at the shape! Small head, big body, wedge-shaped tail, ginormous feet - they're all there. I admit to spending much time trying to capture the shapes of these chicken-like birds, few successfully. Occasionally, though, I get it right, even if it's rather safe side-on drawing. As soon as I got it down on paper the idea of this simple portrayal came to mind. Back on the Bristol Board and trying even more layers of harder-tipped pencils which seem to work better. Don't worry, the Coot's are coming soon!
Thanks for looking.
